The Special Places at Siwash LakeOff-the-beaten-path in western Canada lays the last frontier of British Columbia, where BC’s Cariboo perches high on an interior plateau of rolling Cascadian landscape—rich with rivers, lakes, grasslands and bound by snowy peaks. Animated by a history of gold seeking and cattle ranching, the region possesses a powerful First Nation's presence, past and present.
|This sparsely populated chunk of BC’s heartland has a magnetic appeal, where a remote swathe of the mighty Fraser River cuts through semi arid country like a northern Grand Canyon and where the Cariboo Gold Rush reached a feverish peak in the 1870’s. Our resort at Siwash Lake lays poised atop this magnificent Fraser Plateau, the ideal base from which to explore some of BC’s best kept secrets by foot, canoe, mountain bike, horseback or helicopter.
In 2017, our beloved Siwash was hit by a most aggressive wildfire. An epic fight ensued. With the help of a brave and loyal team, we saved the core of the operation. Although our landscape is battle scarred, the heart and soul of Siwash prevails. Our sacred places on the range survived—river swimming spots, waterfalls, and rolling meadows for canters on horseback—now they are glorious havens of green amid a striking, black forest.
The heart of the place, the Ranch at Siwash Lake, has become a powerful oasis where resident wildlife seek sanction. Atop the fire-licked Ridge at Siwash Lake, we are debuting our new Siwash Star Camp™.
In the spirit of renewal following a forest fire, we have created another special place at Siwash. Situated in the hub of a post-wildfire biome, the BC Wildland Ecology Centre Society will steward the environment and help preserve the past, while remaining dedicated to sustainable and innovative processes. Its purpose is to protect, study and showcase the sensitive ecosystem created by wildfire, through conservation, education, reforestation and responsible tourism activities.
At Siwash, we see ourselves as guardians of this rare and sensitive ecosystem. And despite the wildfire, we forge ahead to share our story with guests from around the world, while taking our offerings of adventure to a newfound high. Here, you’ll discover different cultures and way of living while reconnecting with Nature and your loved ones. If you're like-minded and adventurous—you seek and appreciate the finer things in life—then we invite you to share in the delights of our unique, post-wildfire wilderness paradise.
