Ecology Exploration and Nature Safaris
Siwash Lake’s dynamic ecosystem offers rich opportunities for exploration and serves as a living classroom. Accompanied by passionate naturalists, families set off on an interpretive hike through an area affected by wildfire, and come face-to-face with the resilience of the Cariboo wilderness.
Along the path, hidden waterfalls cascade into clear pools, and young guests become budding ecologists—learning how to identify native flora, tracking wildlife patterns, and understanding the intricate balance that sustains this wild ecosystem. These guided explorations offer insights into local ecology, climate change, and the raw power of nature.

Star Gazing
When twilight fades and the last notes of the day soften into silence, the stars begin their story. Far from urban glow, Siwash Lake’s dark sky sanctuary offers a breathtaking view of the cosmos.
Families gather under wool blankets with warm drinks in hand, marveling at the expansive night sky while watching constellations, planets, and the Milky Way in vivid detail.
During Starlight Season at Siwash Lake, the annual Perseid Meteor display-- ‘showers of shooting stars’-- is in full swing. Full moons can be so bright at Siwash Lake they cast shadows and capture colour. Dazzling Aurora Borealis displays surprise and delight on some nights; most often at the end of August and during September.

Campfire Connection
After an adventure filled day, when the sun dips behind the wild ridges, families gather around the crackling campfire at Siwash Lake—a place where stories unfold under starlit skies and flames flicker like ancient spirits.
Guided by Indigenous tradition, guests learn to twist bannock dough onto sticks and cook it over the coals. The scent of wood smoke mingles with the heavenly aroma of baked bread and toasted marshmallows.
This nightly ritual is more than cozy—it’s a soul-deep connection to the land, a ritual of gathering since time immemorial.

Free-Range Kids
Children ages four and up can join the Free-Range Kids program, which balances freedom and gentle guidance through nature-based play while giving children the chance to sample the best of life on a ranch.
Young explorers engage in activities such as scavenger hunts and fort building. They can plant seeds and pick fresh vegetables in the garden, and collect eggs from the chicken coop. Youngsters are also encouraged to participate in horse care and pony rides, which take place around the barn and home meadow. During quiet times and inclement weather conditions, Indigenous arts and crafts come into play. This program fosters independence, creative thinking and connection to the land.
